I had it before this episode aired, and this one goes a long way in confirming it. There's still one more Distant Lands special after Together Again, and there might still be more Adventure Time in the future, but there will absolutely never be a better ending to Finn and Jake's story.Ĭreated by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time: Distant Lands is available exclusively on HBO Max.Massive spoiler warning, potentially for the finale of season 1 of Distant Lands, so read on with that discretion in mind. Jake ends up sensing Finn's energy and portals out of the 50th to find Finn. Together Again has been promoted as the duo's "biggest adventure ever." What the ads have kept secret is that the biggest adventure is death. Together Again, the third Adventure Time: Distant Lands special, and the one initially written as the last before HBO Max ordered the fourth special Wizard City, gives Finn and Jake's adventures a definitive ending in a way "Come Along With Me" couldn't - and it's pretty much perfect. There were story arcs resolved (the war for the Candy Kingdom, Simon's recovery, Marceline and Bubblegum's relationship) and sacrifices made (Fern, Betty, the tree fort), but in general, it was a "life goes on" ending where Finn and Jake were a relatively small piece of a bigger story. However, it wasn't really an ending for the show's main characters Finn and Jake. "Come Along With Me," the original series finale to Adventure Time, was a great ending to the show.
